Established in 2013 in San Francisco, vanIvey is a small-batch customizable ceramic line designed and handcrafted by artist Kristen Sloan. In 2016, she moved her ceramic operation to a small farm in rural South Carolina.
A limited number of designs are available. All wares are dinnerware, dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
Sloan uses a hearty stoneware clay body to craft functional heirloom ceramic wares. Wedding the rustic with the refined, she assumes the drippy glaze techniques and devious surfaces of antique French confit pots and Perigordian jugs, veiling them with a fresh Ironstone palette, modern lines and vintage detailing. Subtle asymmetry in shape, irregularity in the glaze surface, and evidence of the materiality of clay itself, are just a few of the qualities that embody her aesthetic.
"...her rustic stoneware expresses a distinctly European sensibility: monogrammed platters and cake stands, refined footed bowls and unfussy dining sets, all glazed in uncomplicated white, accents...The Old World has made an impression, both genetic and literal..." - Alison Clare Steingold for C Home Magazine
